Most nationalities require a visa obtained in advance from an Algerian embassy or consulate. Contact us to learn about the exception. Standard processing takes one to four weeks, so apply at least six weeks before travel. We assist every client with visa guidance and the required support documentation as part of our service.

No vaccinations are legally required to enter Algeria from most countries. Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required only if arriving from an endemic country. Recommended precautions include hepatitis A, typhoid, and up-to-date routine vaccinations. As of 2025 to 2026 the WHO has issued a Polio Level 2 alert for Algeria, so ensure your polio vaccination is current. Malaria is not present in the regions we visit. Algeria uses the Algerian Dinar (DZD), which is non-convertible outside the country, so exchange on arrival. Card acceptance is limited to major hotels, so budget to use cash throughout. Bring euros, US dollars, or British pounds and exchange at official bureaux de change or major banks. Your concierge provides a full cash and budget briefing before departure.

The Mediterranean coast is beautiful from April to June and September to October. The Sahara is best from October to March, when daytime temperatures are manageable. The Aures Mountains are pleasant year-round. August 2027 brings the total solar eclipse and is ideal for the north and mountains.

Arabic and Tamazight are the official languages, and French is widely spoken. English is less common outside major hotels, which is why a private English-speaking guide is included on every itinerary.

Pack layers. Desert days are warm and nights can be cold. Bring breathable, modest clothing, a warm layer for evenings, a hat and high-factor sun protection, sturdy closed shoes, and a scarf for sun, dust and religious sites. Northern Algeria and the main tourist regions are considered safe for travellers, and the country maintains strong tourist and border security. Official advice is against travel to the border regions with Mali, Niger and Libya, which our itineraries do not visit. All routes are planned around established, safe corridors with local expertise on the ground and 24-hour concierge support.

Every journey includes private transfers, internal flights where useful, and a dedicated driver and vehicle. You will not use public transport or shared coaches. Remote desert travel uses 4×4 vehicles with experienced local drivers.

Algeria is a Muslim-majority country. Modest dress is appreciated, especially outside cities and at religious sites. During Ramadan, eating and drinking in public during daylight hours is avoided. Photography of military and government sites is prohibited, and drones are effectively banned for tourists. Your guide briefs you each day, and Algerian hospitality is exceptional.
